home improvement

I'm not sure where it came from, but all of a sudden I had an urge to re-do our guest room. It isn't anything big or fancy, but I recently learned (the hard way) that our white quilt on the bed is a magnet for Sarge. I guess his black fur attracts the white!

I've started making a board on my Pinterest dedicated to my guest room re-vamp. It all sort of started when I bought a dresser at Goodwill last week. After refurnishing our table and chairs, I've wanted a new project and thought this could be a good place to start!

I'll give you a sneak peak of my thoughts thus far.

I already have these Euro shams, but need some turquoise/navy pillows to accompany them.

I have white now, and like I said, we really need a dark color quilt!

Come Tour OUR Home!

So many exciting posts lately it seems! Nothing dull and boring here, ladies and gents!

We went and visited our new home before Christmas and instantly fell in love. We found it online and quickly contacted the realtor to have a friend go by and look at it. My new bff in Beaufort, Anna was so sweet and checked out a couple of houses for me. The first one was in the ghetto so we quickly ruled that out! You never know what kind of neighborhood you'll get in the south!

This house is just what we need-- 3 bed, 2.5 bath, garage, nice sized kitchen, and a front porch! A single bachelor marine was living in the house when we went by. You could immediately tell a single guy lived in the house because a) his mattress was on the floor b) there were hoochie pinups on the wall c) it was almost impossible to turn the lock. When the realtor sent us the pictures earlier last week of the house all cleaned and ready to move in, we both went crazy with excitement! I've started eying some furniture online that I need  want!

So without further adieu... Welcome to our home :)

Welcome home!

Perfect spot for our recovered table and chairs.

Super excited to put baskets to organize in that cubby!

This is my favorite spot in the house. HOW FUN is this bar!!?

I love counterspace.

I am buying a swing off Craigslist ($50!!!!) for our front porch!

Neat little back porch overlooking a lagoon.

This will house our new boat. Yes, we are getting a boat soon.

Hello master closet that I shall call MINE! Sorry, Ty you can get a closet in a guest room haha!

I'm thinking about a gallery wall here.

Love this arch!

Figured you probably didn't want to see the bedrooms and bathrooms. Nothing crazy, just normal spaces. What did you think!?

HOORAY! We are sooooooo excited. Come visit! We are only 30 minutes from Hilton Head Island!

Hope I didn't bore you too much!!!! Can't wait to start moving things in so very soon!!

I'm Going Craigslist Crazy!!

First of all, thank you all for your sweet words yesterday! It was just one of those days, and after a gym session last night and this morning, I feel much better! Just needed to vent a little and count my blessings :)

I am going crazy over looking at furniture on Craigslist! Ever since I redid my table and chairs, I just want to add some nice furniture to my name! I really don't want to have to buy things brand new when Tyler and I get married. He has a couch and a bedroom set, but I think you need a LOT more than that to make a house a "home." Maybe I'll get some surprise wedding furniture that no one is telling me about. #hopeful

These are some of the things I have found recently that I want to pull the trigger on!

How fun would this be to repaint and add cute knobs to? For $45, I might just have to pick this up when I am home at Thanksgiving!

I want this so badly!! I think it would add such a sophisticated touch to an entryway!!! $75.. Reasonable, right??

Every girl needs a china cabinet! Ah, if I ever pick out my fine china, I could actually put it in here! $300. Thoughts?

This could be SO FUN as a bar!!!!

I have a feeling the blue chest has sold, but I am going to keep my eye on these pieces as well as a few others! You know you are grown up when you get excited about furniture... Yikes!

Have a great day and stay dry and safe on the East Coast!

Homemade Corn Wreath!

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture on Facebook of my newest craft. Last year I made a cotton wreath to take with me when I moved out here. I actually made about 5 and gave them to my family members! I wanted to make something this year that would be a tribute to my time in Illinois.

My inital idea for the corn wreath completely changed once I realized how hard it would be to make the ears of corn perfectly aligned with one another. Somehow, I had the idea to make the wreath out of the husks instead. I'm so glad I did! It turned out really great!

I used the straw wreath instead of the wire wreath.

Lots of hot glue was involved per every wreath project.

I needed a way to incorporate the corn itself, so I decided to cut an L out of cardboard and hot glue the corn kernals to the cardboard. Yay for my future new last name!

Finished Product:

I'm going to keep it hung inside because with this wind it will certainly fall apart.

Now I have both my cotton wreath and my corn wreath... two very important symbols in my life!

Homemade Hummus

Who doesn't love hummus?

Tyler's mom has an amazing recipe that I must share. She made it for us last fall and I have been meaning to make it for almost a year now!

Today at the grocery store, hummus was $4.99.... so much more fun to make it homemade and pay probably a little less to make more than the store brand!

15 oz can chick peas

1/8 cup tahini

1/2 teaspoon cumin

2 tablespoon lemon juice

1 red pepper (from can)

3 gloves garlic (I used 1 tablespoon minced garlic)

1 tablespoon juice from chick peas

Salt and pepper to taste

I had to resort to using a rolling pin.

Epic fail. I need a food processor like ASAP. I have one on my registry if ya wanna check it out and give it to me as a wedding gift?

Tried to blend it together....

Progress.

VOILA! It's a little chunkier than most hummus, but Tyler will still eat it!

I finally got to use my apron my aunt gave me!

Yummy and healthy afternoon snack! Enjoy!

Ta ta,
